The Emerald Arts Society in 2019
In 2019 the Arts Society will be celebrating its 50th year as a vibrant, diverse and integral part of the hills community. Residing in the heart of Emerald it has over 100 members and offers a wide range of activities.
The arts society has its own premises at the corner of Anne and Church Streets in Emerald. We are within walking distance of Puffing Billy and also the Emerald Village with a range of eating establishments, cafes, craft shops and local art galleries. Public transport connects with the rail terminus at Belgrave.
We are a volunteer group that has the support of the Cardinia Shire together with many groups and businesses throughout Emerald and surrounding areas. Generous sponsorship is vital to our development and we ask that you support those businesses and community groups who continue to support us.
Workshops are held regularly throughout the year. These include various forms of Printmaking, Watercolour, Pastel painting, Ceramics, Mixed Media, Oil painting and various forms of Print Making. This year we have regular tutored classes in Ceramics, Lead Lighting and Oil Painting. Our untutored sessions include Life Drawing and Open Studio, both of which provide a casual yet focused environment where artists can meet and practise their skills. Our current classes and workshops are listed below.
Our Annual Art Exhibition which is held over Cup weekend continues to grow with Adult and NextGen (under 20 years) sections catering to all members of the community. To that end we have formed a close relationship with local schools and encourage everyone to showcase their skills.
From 2019 onwards we will be celebrating the life of talented artist, former president of the society and great supporter of the arts, John Dudley, by introducing what we hope will be another regular exhibition, The John Dudley Portrait Prize. This will be held in July and promises to be an exciting step in the in our society’s growth.
