2022 Workshop: Intro to Lino Block Printing

Saturday 14th May, 2022.

Lino printing, also known as Linocut, is a popular and easy to carve form of printmaking as an alternative to wood. The printmaking process involves creating a design and carving into the linoleum with lino cutting tools or chisels.

The lino cut is then coated with ink. Paper is placed over it, it is passed through the press or rolled by hand, and the pressure transfers the inked design onto the paper.

In this workshop, we will have time to experience working with traditional lino or vinyl as well as soft cut lino.

2022: A New Year — AGM and Letter to Members

Dear All Members of the Emerald Arts Society,

On behalf of the Emerald Arts Society we hope you all have a happy and safe 2022.

2021 was a very difficult year for the arts industry as we all know and was especially hard on the Emerald Arts Society where we had to once again cancel the prestigious John Dudley Portrait Prize.

Due to lots of great work by the committee we were able to run our Annual Arts Exhibition as an online event which was very pleasing and successful.

It’s that time of year when we hold our Annual General Meeting which is set down for Monday the 31st January at 7.00PM, at our EAS rooms on Church Street, Emerald.

We are cordially inviting you to attend the AGM and we would very much welcome new faces and ideas to join the committee in 2022.

This is a great opportunity to have your say in how the arts society is run and what directions we should take in the future and please be assured should you wish to join the committee there will be plenty of support and assistance.

The evening will be catered for so if you can please RSVP back to me by the 24th January your intentions, this would be greatly appreciated.

Please find linked here, the committee nomination form
as well as the EAS membership form for 2022.

Memberships are due 31st January 2022.

In 2022 we have some very exciting new workshops being planned, Plein Air paint outs and informative art evenings as well as continuing our current workshops. So hopefully in 2022 we can really celebrate being creative artists.

We are also planning to participate in the Cardinia Arts Festival which starts next month and we will have a stall setup on the opening launch day at the Cardinia Culture Centre on Sunday the 30th January, so please mark the date in your calendars and come down and support the EAS and get involved.

We look forward to seeing you at the AGM and feel free to contact myself or anyone on the committee if you have any queries and if you can kindly RSVP back to me by the 24th January that would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Glenn Hambleton, EAS Secretary.

2022 Workshop: Monotype Printmaking

Saturday 19th Feb 2022 — In this hands on small class sized workshop Gina will introduce you to a variety of Monoprinting techniques.

Monoprinting gives you the freedom to try different techniques inexpensively. With relief printing each image requires a new block. With monoprinting you can try a new image more quickly. We will be experimenting with these techniques: Subtractive and Additive, Ghost, Dendritic, Masking, Collage, Tracing and Watercolour Monoprinting. The added benefit to this technique is that it can be done without a press and you can use a barren or a wooden spoon to pull the print.
