2024 Classes: Glass Art / Leadlighting

For decades, the Emerald Arts Society has housed a leadlight room, where students have created a variety of art works including windows, mirrors, lampshades, jewellery boxes, terrariums and mobiles.

Under the expert guidance of Lindsay Dyer, students quickly learn techniques to overcome any fears they may have of cutting and working with glass. Glass grinders also allow students to make complex pieces from the first project. Classes predominately uses lead cane, not copper foil for finishing, as this tends to produce a better finished product.

Students are free to choose any project they wish to work on, be it something small, large or even mending an existing broken item.

THE TEACHER: Lindsay has been teaching leadlight classes at EAS since 1984 and has been creating glass works of art for many years prior to this. Lindsay enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge of this medium with new students.

TIME: Mondays 2pm–4pm

LOCATION: EAS Studio, Cnr Church & Anne Sts

COST: $115 per term

PROVIDED: All tools are provided and some glass. Students to purchase own glass dependent on project they choose to undertake.

2024 Classes: Watercolour

Working in the watercolour medium, as challenging as it is, presents excitement, creative possibilities, and frustration, all in one go. It is not without the need for perseverance and persistence, but with this, plus a desire to achieve, you will succeed!!

The aim of classes is to pass on the skills needed to proceed, to encourage individuality, creativity, and to enjoy the process!

THE TEACHER: Antoinette Blyth is an artist and tutor residing in Melbourne, Australia. Trained in the art of oil painting, she moved on to Watercolour and has been painting in this medium for over 30 years. As well as judging Exhibitions, she continues to teach to pass on her knowledge to others. She was a past Vice President of AGRA, the Australian Guild of Realist Artists, is a member of AGRA still and the Victorian Artists Society, Watercolour Society of Victoria, Whitehorse Arts Association, and member and past President of Sherbrooke Art Society.

Over the years, Antoinette has won numerous awards for her watercolours and her work is found in private collections around Australia, New Zealand & Europe.

“As an artist and teacher, I feel privileged to be able to impart skills of painting to others in a manner that encourages confidence, individuality and determination to succeed. To watch the development and passion of a painter grow, is exciting and rewarding. The connection over the years with “lovers of Watercolour” has been a means of exchanging thoughts, encouragement, and learning. In overview I am happy that I foster the heritage and appreciation of art passed on from my parents. I hope to continue the journey!”
